No. Our artists are fictional characters, openly created. Each one has a detailed life, a point of view and a voice — but they are not real people, and we never present them as real. The stories are made up. The truth in them isn’t.
An independent creative label that develops fictional artists, original music and the stories around them. We begin with character — who someone is, and what they are finally ready to say — and let the songs, images and writing grow from there.
Because the feelings are real. A song about an old dress, a too-quiet house or a body that has changed doesn’t stop being true because the singer is invented. Fiction has always let us tell the truth sideways. This is the same, with a new kind of voice.
A person does. Lyrics are shaped by a human creator using AI as a writing partner — to draft, to test ideas, to try rhymes — and then every line is chosen, rewritten and approved by hand. If a line doesn’t sound like Sarah Jane, it doesn’t stay.
The voice and the music are made with generative tools (we use Suno for the audio). They are not recordings of a specific real singer. They are built and directed toward one consistent artist, the way a producer shapes a sound over time.
Because here it is a creative instrument, not a shortcut. Behind Silvergrass is a person with musical and creative instincts, and AI is how those instincts reach a finished song. A human curates, sets the direction, guides, corrects and decides at every step. The tool offers possibilities; the person makes the choices — and answers for them.
It is a fair worry, and the wider debate about AI and creative work is real and unsettled — we won’t pretend to have solved it. What we can speak to is our own practice: this is one person creating with new tools, not a machine put in place of a band. We don’t imitate or clone named real artists, and we never pass generated work off as the labour of musicians who weren’t involved. Where the industry goes next is bigger than any one label — and we’d rather be honest about that than falsely reassuring.
Another fair question — and an honest answer has to admit its limits. We don’t control how a tool like Suno was trained, and we won’t claim otherwise. What we do control is how we use it: we direct it toward an original character, we don’t try to reproduce a specific living artist’s voice or style, and we’re open about the tools involved. The training-data question is a real one for the whole field, and it deserves better than a marketing answer.
No — the opposite. We state plainly that our artists are fictional and created with AI. We don’t invent concerts, interviews or personal history and present them as documented fact. The whole project only works if the audience is in on it.
Yes. We disclose it openly — on the music, here, and wherever a release appears. It is the right thing to do, and clear AI labelling is increasingly what the law requires too. We’re glad to meet that in the open rather than around it.
If the songs weren’t any good, it would be. The test we hold ourselves to is simple: does the music stand on its own, and does it carry a real point of view? The technology is how it is made — not the reason to listen.
